Why Pilates?

Between the office and all those too-good-to-miss box sets modern life means we spend a lot of time sitting down and that’s not good for your back health, posture or digestion. Long hours spent sitting in front of a computer can lead to tight hip flexors, rounded shoulders and potentially lower back pain. Pilates helps stretch everything back out, lengthening the muscles, increasing blood flow, opening up the body, and giving it a much needed break from that all too familiar seated posture.

Pilates evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates, born in Germany in 1883, who believed that poor posture was responsible for poor health. Joseph worked on awareness of breath and the alignment of the spine to strengthen the body and in particular the deep core muscles(powerhouse) through mindful movement. The benefits of Pilates can be felt throughout everyday life; decreasing stress, improving co-ordination and balance as well as strengthening the core and giving you a body to be proud of!
